The hardest part if being a graphic designer is finding an offset printer who can print my jobs at somewhat affordable prices. I've had my eye on a
Gocco for years, drooling over experts like
Sugarloop (above) and watching Etsy
tutorials and I believe the time has come to purchase my very own. Does anyone have Gocco experience to share (good or bad)?
i LOOOOOOVE my gocco! the process is really easy and quite satisfying. in fact, i loved mine so much that my sister bought one, as well. the main issue i have with it at this point is that the price of supplies seems to have almost doubled recently (the company has stopped producing the supplies), making it kind of an expensive craft.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love these prints, they would be perfect for my new kitchen! xo, alex
ReplyDeleteGocco seems fun, but the cost of the supplies seems to be a pretty big deal.
ReplyDeleteWhat about just regular screen printing? It takes a bit of work/research to set things up, but a really basic setup is pretty simple & the supplies are MUCH cheaper.
Or I heard about something called YUDU by Provo Craft (currently sold on the Home Shopping Network, I think) that is like Gocco, but is big enough to easily print up to 11x14"... I haven't found any reviews by regular people using it yet though.
easy-to-miss: thanks for the YUDU info, I looked it up and think I may just love it!
ReplyDeleteEasyToMiss has a point, real screenprinting is pretty easy. The only thing is, you need a place to store all the pigments and emulsion, it's not good to have in the kitchen! I've never even seen a Gocco, so I have no idea how that works, but I've obviously done a TON of silkscreening, and I would love to help you start if that's the way you decided to go :)
ReplyDeleteAmber,
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to let me know if you get a yudu. I work at Provo Craft and use mine to make quick, simple gifts (most recently i printed wings on a few onsies for my newest nephew).
I've been participating in a conversation on etsy that brings up a lot of good questions. I've done my best to answer all of them.
Tonia - I actually watched a YUDU tutorial on YouTube - and it was you! I'm seriously considering one, just wondering if it works on paper as well as it does on fabric? I'll look it up on Etsy to see what questions people have, but so far I like what I see!
