{happy friday!}
have a lovely weekend! do you have plans? image: i.anton/flickr
{inspired daily by} people, objects & musings that make me smile
I've had an achy cold for the last few days - all I want to do is stay in my cozies and watch John Hughes films all day.
I'm kind of enamoured by the blog MayaMade, it's just chock full of crafty goodness and easy to follow tutorials. Check her out in the weeks to come before Valentine's, she's doing projects that cost almost-nothing with things you can find around your home (love that).
The Lazy Organizer gives us the full tutorial on how to make these gorgeous pillowcases. What a great rainy day project, and a way to use up some fabric scraps!
I've had these gorgeous images stuck in my head for a week now, the colorful tapestries and bursts of fresh color. I'm loving all that pink, but alas, I live with a manly man who does not share my pink passion. images via made by girl from the books hey home & bazaar style
I know I've mentioned her before, but I can't get enough of the styling and craftiness by Rebecca Thuss. Her portfolio makes me giddy, all those gorgeous paper crafts and lovelies.
I believe this dress is what summery dreams are made of. White & flowy but with copper studs so it's not so sugary sweet.
I love the history and intricate design found in big old iron gates. I have a few placed around my garden that I got at Urban Ore years ago, vines have intertwined through the curls and each one has a new layer of gorgeous turquoise patina. I keep the images for design inspiration, the patterns look beautiful on invitations! images: brooklyn museum (butterfly)
My first rock star crush was on Michael Hutchence from INXS. I also remember an interview where he said the love of his life was Helena (above) and sadly, not me. It was easy to understand why he loved her, those turquoise eyes and swedish accent, so I quickly deemed her my favorite model of all time. She's now the face for Odd Molly, a fab new line out of Stockholm - check out this photoshoot, and the website is beautifully done.
The Hello Lucky design space may just be my dream studio - a place to create invitations, cards and whatever else comes to mind. Browse through the pics on flickr, I love the vintage bookcase filled with galvi tubs.
I used to be a HUGE Ani DiFranco fan, travelled far & wide and never missed a show. These days, I still rock out to her in my car, even see a show once in a while, but what's interesting is that her lyrics come back to me ALL the time. In strange places, in my dreams, when I'm working and when I hike. So, today, I'll share the one that keeps popping up - it's just very telling of my day ahead...."why am I so tired? I need company. I need back up. I need to be inspired." I'm off to be inspired today.
My office is more like a "nook" in our guest bedroom. I've tucked a desk and bookshelves nicely into my nook, but for some reason it is always, without fail, a big 'ol mess. I've been so busy working from home that I haven't stopped to clean, and each day I pick up where I left off, adding to the piles. Today I'll clean this mess, and I'm hoping my head will clear out as well!
I'm a sucker. I've been had. I was deceived. They pulled a fast one on me. For some reason (laziness?) I ordered 3 bathing suits from the Victoria Secret catalog for my upcoming yoga retreat. And...they just might be the most hideous things to ever arrive at my doorstep. Not joking. Here's what I can't understand - they're great brands that I usually buy - Vitamin A & Vix - and wouldn't you know, they sure looked great on those uber models, but everything down to the color and fabric are just....super cheesy. Please remind me never to do this again.
How about this genius idea of creating wall decor with famous quotes on kraft paper?? This shop in Australia looks crazy cool. via brown button
I am lusting over some of the new jewels over at J.Crew, like this necklace combo from Jenna Lyons "picks".
The weather this weekend was incredible - in the 80's and not a cloud in the sky. We spent all of Saturday at the beach, one of those days that's not planned and turns out just right (we couldn't help but feel guilty that parts of the US are freeezing right now). Sunday was a sweet fairy party in the park with good friends, kids and cupcakes - what a weekend! photo: Ruby & Frankie in the park.
Once in a while Boden comes out with something that doesn't scream "I am a mom, can't you tell?". These sailor sweaters are kind of great, and with an old pair of jeans kind of just-right. Now, for the color...choices, choices....
It took a few episodes of The Hills spinoff to really hook me, but it's a done deal, The City rocks. Whitney, totally gorgeous but still approachable, moves to NYC to work for - none other than - Diane Von Furstenburg (dream job! fashion lust!). There's girl drama with Olivia the "social" and boy drama (of course) with hot Aussie musician Jay. If you're not watching, you must have something ridiculously awesome going on instead.
wowww. This is my usual response after reading the latest Domino which I got last night, and this issue is really good. It's filled with pretty home ideas; labeling old tea tins (love), and creating your very own haven. The feature on Mark & Sunrise Ruffalo's home was inspiring, I dreamt about it last night.
Sorry about the lame non-posting lately, I have a freelance job that's been keeping me verrrry busy, but fret not, I'll be back in action by tomorrow. In the meantime, I can't stop daydreaming about Eva Mendes at the Golden Globes - so so stunning!!
We had a sunshine tease this weekend here in northern California and it's left me dreaming of flouncy dresses and wide brimmed hats. I'm officially going on a yoga retreat in Mexico in February, so I'm going to need some little pretties to pack. Here are just a few of the goodies I have my eye on...drool, right??
I have got to see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the deYoung museum - it looks like a show I could take Ruby too, a visual treat for us both.
*UPDATE: my shop is up, but the photography is awful, the inks look washed out but they're really vibrant. I need to do some work on this - will be back soon!
Today I am setting up the Whish Esty Shop to share with you the bit of goodies I've been working on over the holiday break. Here's a snippet of what's to come - check back tomorrow (I'm also doing my first-ever GIVEAWAY).
This is so much fun! This site lets you choose any color of the spectrum and then gathers images from Flickr making a collage of that color. Choose 2 colors and it will mix them together. Kind of addicting, and very cool.
It must be this time of year that has me craving LIGHT, and lots of it. I recently bought a floor and table lamp and I'm on the hunt for more. Now that I'm not going to an office everyday, I notice during certain times of the day my home seems so dark. Here are but a few I have my eye on. fruiteria lamp, driftwood lamp, chandelier, lotus flower
The tree is down, the ornaments are packed up snuggly, NYE sparklers have faded away, and I just turned 35. I'm feeling a bit reflective about the past year, the year ahead, and all that I'd love to accomplish along the way. Happy 2009, may this be the year of happiness and whishes come true, xo image: the birthday brunchers
