We were there in January and enjoyed quite a few yummy meals! My hands down fave was The Red Cat but that was closely followed by The Burger Joint & Lupa. If you want a more extensive list, go to my blog and put "new york food" in the search box. That should bring up the post I did on our dining experiences in the city.
I'd also highly recommend "Top of the Rock" for the AMAZING 360 degree views of the city it offers.
perfect timing to check out in(side)the loop and her weekend trip there: http://www.insidetheloopblog.com/ she gives lots of great suggestions for food and frivolity.
Oh, how I love NYC! 12 Days--you lucky dog! We were there in April. Here are a few recommendations...Roberta Roller Rabbit(great tunics), 5th Floor Bergdorf Goodman (amazing clothes and shoes)...Balthazaar in Soho(restaurant--be sure to get a reservation,if possible---long wait), Henri Bendel (for neat hair accessories), SaraBeth's for breakfast, Jersey Boys--it is just so good. Have fun!
i just got back from NY (was there all last week)!!
i tried mercer kitchen in soho for the first time and thought it was quite good...plus lots of shopping opps around the area which is always a bonus...
also, i'd suggest www.upnext.com for any specifics you want to do while you're out there.
{what I love} I love to gather friends and throw a great party, designing invitations that make people gasp with delight, the color yellow, my two beautiful daughters, nice weather, corona's w/lime, coconut lotion, my family & friends, piper lane, sipping a latte while browsing Anthropologie, hanging with my hubby on the beach and just enjoying life's little pleasures.

This may be a little late, but we did a post of our favorite haunts in NYC. Lots of places to eat, shop and drink:
